Why Women-Owned Businesses Need a Welcome Email Sequence: Benefits of Automated Lead Nurturing

Are you ready to supercharge your lead nurturing game? Allow me to introduce you to the almighty welcome sequence — the secret marketing weapon for women-owned businesses.

She can take your leads from meh to hell yeah faster than you can say, "cha-ching!" And the best part? Automation does all the heavy lifting for you.

That means once you set her up, you can sit back, relax, and watch your lead nurturing system work her magic behind the scenes. You can use your new free time to focus on moving the needle elsewhere.

Because, if you’re like me, you probably have — oh, I don’t know — ten thousand other things you could be doing. If you want to start scaling your business, automation is key!

I'm Sarah, a freelance copywriter who helps female-focused brands and women-owned businesses level up their marketing. And I'm here to share why a welcome sequence is a game-changer for your marketing strategy.

Wondering just how powerful it can be? Let me tell you about one of my badass clients.

Canyon Calling is a travel company that empowers solo female travelers to explore the world. After partnering with me on a welcome sequence project, this client saw…

👉🏼 A 50% increase in bookings

👉🏼 A 201.4% increase in website traffic

… within just one month of launching their new welcome sequence. Pretty powerful, right? 🤯

Ready to turn your leads into raving clients too? Then grab your favorite beverage, and let's get into the nitty-gritty of automating your welcome sequence.

First, the basics…

What is a welcome email sequence? And why do you need one?

A welcome email sequence is a series of emails you send to your new subscribers after they opt-in to your email list. Think of it as an *air hug* and a friendly "Hey, nice to meet you!" — all rolled into one.

So why do you need one? With a welcome sequence, you can:

✔️ Generate more profit in your business — easily.

With automation, you can deeply connect with every single new subscriber. You only need to create a freebie, write your welcome sequence ONE 👏 TIME 👏, set up a trigger, and voila! You'll let it work behind the scenes while focusing on other things. Like sipping margaritas on the beach, for example.

✔️ Keep the conversation going.

Did you know that 50% of leads won't buy from you until they know you better? That's where your welcome sequence comes in. It gives you a chance to WOW those leads with your mission, expertise, story, results, and your heart. You're not just another business trying to sell something. You're a visionary with a message to share.

✔️ Get personal.

Email marketing is more intimate and cozy than other forms of marketing. People want to connect with YOU, not just your service or solution. And the best place to foster that connection is right in their virtual living room — their inbox. You can build trust, show your personality, and establish a real relationship with your subscribers.

✔️ Drive conversion.

If you think a single welcome email is enough to turn your leads into loyal customers, you're in for a rude awakening. A welcome sequence is like the superhero version of a welcome email. 🦸🏼‍♀️

It's got way more power, far more impact, and much greater moolah potential. How much more? A welcome sequence yields 51% more revenue than a single welcome email.

Convinced yet? Let's talk about how you can create your own welcome sequence, shall we?

Women-Owned Businesses: How to write a welcome sequence and set up email automation

I *pinky swear* this process isn’t as complicated as it sounds [read: no overwhelm required]. Follow my five easy steps, and you’ll be well on your way to nurturing your leads and growing your business like the badass businesswoman you are.

Step 1: Identify your audience and their pain points.

Before you write a single word of your welcome sequence, you need to understand your audience and what they need.

👉🏼 What problems are they trying to solve?

👉🏼 What are their pain points?

👉🏼 What are their goals and aspirations?

By answering these questions, you can create a welcome sequence that speaks directly to your audience and provides them with the solutions they're looking for.

Step 2: Create a killer freebie.

To entice people to join your email list in the first place, you need to offer them something of value. This could be a free guide, template, checklist, video, or anything else that's relevant to your audience and their needs. If you want to grow your email list, the key is to make sure your freebie is something *irresistible* to your audience.

Step 3: Write your welcome sequence.

Now it's time to get the dang thing written. When I write welcome sequences for my clients, I’ve found that five is the magic number. Over five emails, you’ll have plenty of time to establish trust, share your mission, and build connection.

In your welcome sequence, be sure to reeeeally let your voice shine! Pack your emails with personality so your people are drawn to your brand like a magnet. BONUS: This will instantly repel anyone who isn’t aligned with your brand or offerings — and that’s a good thing!

Here's a basic outline of what each email should include:

  • Email 1: Deliver your freebie and welcome the reader to your community

  • Email 2: Share your mission and story

  • Email 3: Provide value (share a tip, resource, or link to a blog or other content)

  • Email 4: Showcase social proof and testimonials

  • Email 5: Smash objections and CTA

The key to a successful welcome sequence is to balance providing value and building trust with guiding your leads toward making a purchase. You don’t want to be too pushy too quickly!

Step 4: Set up your email automation.

Next, you'll need to choose an email marketing service that can handle automated sequences. There are plenty of options out there, but my favorite is ConvertKit. Look for one that fits your needs, budget, and technical skills.

Then, you’ll set up a trigger that starts the sequence when a new subscriber joins your email list. This trigger can be as simple as selecting "send welcome sequence" when a new subscriber is added to your list.

Finally, it's important to test your welcome sequence and make any necessary adjustments. Be sure your trigger is working correctly and that your emails look stunning on all devices. It’s also a good idea to track your metrics to see how your subscribers are engaging with your emails.

Once you have your email automation set up, this baby is ready to roll behind the scenesfreeing you up to do literally anything else.

Don't be that business owner who lets their leads float off into Internet Land, never to be heard of again. Use automation to your advantage. Save yourself time and effort. Do the work once, and then watch your leads transform into raving clients right before your eyes.  👀
